“What do you think, Robbie?”

“About what?”

“About how we’re going to do.”

“I think we’re gonna win easy.”

Jerry smiled at the young man. His certainty was unflinching, typical of someone untouched by the highs and lows of years in the boxing game. Normally Jerry would have stopped to warn such a young trainee of complacency and the vagaries of sport. But in this case he shared the young man’s confidence. “Yeah,” he said. “That’s what I think too.”

Jerry and Robbie stood together in the corridor, waiting to be called. They were just minutes away from the final middleweight match in the British Amateur Championships.
